An Introduction to the Falls Creek Alpine Association (FCAA)

History of the FCAA

The FCAA was created by a small group of Alpine area enthusiasts in 2003 in order to meet the growing interest of not for profit lodges and apartment owners looking for a voice in the management of the Falls Creek Resort.

From those beginnings the FCAA now has some 46 member organisations and individual members.  The FCAA represents some 30% + of all beds in the Resort and therefore has a large proportion of the Falls Creek constituency represented in its members.

The FCAA is a representative organisation, registered with the Consumer Affairs Department of the Victorian Government.  We are an Incorporated Association.  We are entirely volunteer run and managed.

Objectives of the FCAA

Our objectives are as follows:

1  Represent our Members' interests in matters effecting ownership and residence within Falls Creek

2  Distribute information from the Alpine Resorts Vic Board and other regulatory authorities to our members

3  Advocate on behalf of our members around matters that effect them, in particular with reference to residential and land occupation matters.

4  Be a conduit for members to inform of their issues and seek members input as to answers from our membership base

Activities of the FCAA

The FCAA is a part of the Falls Creek Stakeholder Consultative Committee (FCSCC). This group is the main stakeholder engagement group from ARV and the Falls Creek Alpine Resort Management team.  The FCSCC works with and in conjunction with other stakeholders around issues that effect our collective constituency in Falls Creek.  This group is fundamentally involved in major stakehoder consultation rounds.

We, the FCAA, (broadly) do not represent the Commercial operators (Commercial Lodges, Hotels and other commercial entities) at Falls Creek.  We have some of these businesses as members and they are most welcome as members.  However it is fair to say that our primary constituency is the not for profit lodge segment and the broader base of private lodge and apartment owners.

We do, however have many individuals as members as well as other organisations that see themselves more closely aligned with our agenda rather than that of other stakeholder groups.

We have direct access to the Falls Creek Resort Management group administration and leadership.  We also have access to the leadership of Alpine Resorts Victoria on the basis of submissions or other relevant matters.

The FCAA is also part of the Alpine Resorts Industry Advisory Group (ARIAG).  ARIAG is currently the grouping providing advice to Government around the Victorian Alpine industry.  ARIAG has been the primary body that advises the State Government of Victoria on policy matters for the Alpine Region.  Being a member of ARIAG is important to ensure that our members' views are considered in a diverse forum such as ARIAG.

The FCAA is also part of the Victorian Snowsports Association (VSA).  This grouping is the association that is broadly the aggregation of the various ratepayer organisations from the other Victorian resorts.  The VSA is a not for profit organisation that provides policy development that is consistent with the views of its membership - being the not for profit and ratepayer segments across the Victorian Alpine resorts.
